What is CPU Overclocking?

The first thing you need to know is that “Overclocking” is something quite delicate, although it can be easy to do, you can’t skip any steps, because it risks overheating your machine.

However, overclocking refers to accelerating the clock speed of your device’s processor. As a result, your computer will be twice as fast and will allow a better operation for your online games.

Many gamers access from older computers, with Windows 7 or less than that. Overclock is the perfect tool to make your computer run better and faster than the factory default.

What you should consider to do Overclock

The first thing you need to know is if your computer can be overclocked, as it is not an option that can be run on all computers.

Also, you must make sure you have an overclock-compatible board. To give you an idea, compatible machine boards are those whose model begins with the letter “Z” (Z77, Z87, Z97, Z170).

Also, you should make sure you have a processor whose multiplier is unlocked. If your computer’s processor is Intel and ends in K, it is unlocked. If, on the other hand, it’s AMD FX series, it’s probably unlocked too.

Finally, the most recommendable thing is to have installed in your PC a program like MSI Afterburner, in which you can regulate the temperature in case it is rising when overclocking.

Steps to Overclock

The first thing you have to do is press the F2 key on your home screen. Pressing this key will take you to the BIOS startup settings.

Then you will see the “Overcloking” or “Advanced Frequency Settings” option is the same.

Once you access this option, you must find the Base Clock and press it to increase the speed to 10%. After this, the most advisable thing to do is to restart the PC.

Once the PC is restarted, you will proceed to increase the multiplier. To access this option, look for the “CPU Clock Ratio” button. You will only have to adjust this option with 0.5 increments.

Don’t forget to check the temperature of your PC using MSI Afterburner, to avoid overheating.
